Security Update for .NET Core SDK (February 2023)

high Nessus Plugin ID 171599

Synopsis

The remote Windows host is affected by a .NET Core SDK remote code execution vulnerability.

Description

A remote code execution vulnerability exists in .NET Core SDK 6.0 < 6.0.14 and .NET Core SDK 7.0 < 7.0.3. This vulnerability exists due to how .NET reads debugging symbols, where reading a malicious symbols file may result in remote code execution. An unauthenticated, local attacker can exploit this, to bypass authentication and execute arbitrary commands.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update .NET Core SDK, remove vulnerable packages and refer to vendor advisory.
